Voters in Western Oklahoma who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the upcoming April 2 General Election should apply now.
Beckham County Election Board Secretary Alex Joseph says that although each county’s election board can accept applications for absentee ballots until 5 pm on Wednesday, March 27, he urged all voters who want to vote by absentee ballot to apply early.
Each county will hold Board of Education General Elections in addition to other elections in each county.
Elections will be held in Beckham County for the City of Erick’s Municipal Election.
In Custer County, the Municipal Elections for Custer City and Butler and the Special School Bond for Thomas-Fay-Custer School District is also on April 2, according to Custer County Election Board Secretary Ann Brown.
In Roger Mills County, in addition to the Board of Education General, there will be a Municipal General and Special County Wide Election, according to Jana Maddux, Roger Mills Election Board Secretary.
The reason for the urgency is that at least two mail transactions must be made before deadline. The election board must, first, mail the ballots to the voter and then, second, the voter must return the voted-on ballots by mail to be received by election board officials by 7 pm on Election Day to be counted.
Maddux says any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot in any election in which the voter is eligible to vote and that it’s not necessary to give a reason for voting absentee.
