A formerly convicted Elk City drug dealer has been arrested and charged again with selling drugs.
40-year-old Derek Austin Brown is in the Beckham County Detention Center with a $50-thousand dollar bond after being charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute along with driving with a suspended license.
Brown was recently pulled over in Elk City for driving a white Ford pickup with a very dimly lite tag light. He told the officer that he didn’t have a driver’s license, was behind on previous court fines from past charges and may have outstanding warrants.
While being arrested, police found in Brown’s front pant pocket, $87 dollars in cash, although he also had a wallet in his possession.
According to the probable cause affidavit, during an inventory of the pickup, police allegedly found a set of digital scales, multiple small zip-lock style baggies and two baggies, one containing methamphetamine, the other marijuana. The substances later tested positive for illegal drugs. The methamphetamine weighed 1.9 grams including packaging.
A review of numerous incoming an outgoing text messages on Brown’s phone allegedly showed that Brown was involved in the sell and distribution of controlled, dangerous substances.
A check of his prior convictions show guilty pleas to possession of a CD with intent, trafficking in illegal drugs, possession of a CD and possession of a sawed off shotgun and assault with a dangerous weapon – all in 2006.
He’s due in district court April 1 for a conference.
