More Charges are Filed against Sweetwater Teacher

A Sweetwater teacher posted a $100-thousand dollar bail bond as he was additionally charged on similar sex crimes in another county.

29-year-old Cameron David Gladd of Elk City is now additionally facing forcible sodomy felonies out of Pottawatomie County, a result of his alleged actions with a Sweetwater High School student who is the same girl named in two of eight felony counts filed against Gladd last week in Beckham County. Those felonies were forcible oral sodomy and rape by instrumentation.

The high school student was 18-years-old and a senior at the time of the alleged crimes in both counties and was in Pottawatomie County with the Sweetwater track team as it was participating in a regional track meet on April 28. The alleged crimes were committed the night before at a hotel in Shawnee.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the girl went to Gladd’s room at his request. She returned to her room about 4 am the next morning.

A warrant had been issued for Gladd’s arrest on January 31 after having been charged with eight felonies regarding the sexual contact of two Sweetwater High School students.

According to the original probable cause affidavit, Gladd – who has been a teacher at Sweetwater since August of 2017 and is listed on the high school website as the Science teacher and Assistant Girls/Boys Coach – allegedly participated in inappropriate text messages with a 17-year-old student and then met the student, privately, on at least three occasions. At least one incident happened at school. The student alleged she and Gladd exchanged inappropriate sexual messages and some messages arrived on the victim’s phone while she was in Gladd’s class.

The alleged contacts tool place between June 1, 2018 through January 16, 2019.

The affidavit also alleges that Gladd had sexual relations with a different student in the spring of 2018. This alleged victim, now 19, told investigators that, while a student of Gladd’s, they began texting and messaging each other between April 28, 2018 and the end of the school year.

If found guilty to any of the more serious crimes, he could serve up to 20 years to life in prison without parole.
