Inattentive driving caused the collision that sent an Elk City man to a local hospital.

56-year-old Robert Edwin Bruner, Junior was admitted in stable condition to Great Plains Regional Medical Center Tuesday morning following an accident in the west bound lane of Business 66, also called the I-40 loop.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Bruner and the driver of another vehicle, 42-year-old Ronald Patrick Webb, also of Elk City, who was driving a 2012 Dodge 2500 PK, were westbound approaching a previous accident scene.

Webb’s PK slowed to turn southbound on State Highway 34 and was struck in the rear by Bruner’s delivery truck. Bruner was pinned about 20 minutes before being freed by the Elk City Fire Department’s Jaws of Life machine.

Both Webb and a passenger in his vehicle, 39-year-old Jimmy Wayne Barnes of Elk City refused treatment at the scene of the accident.

Bruner was admitted with leg injuries.

Seat belts were equipped in both vehicles and were in use.

There is no report of injuries or a description of the other accident that had happened previously in the area.
