The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 142 pounds of marijuana Tuesday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Wheeler County.
Around 1:30 a.m., the Trooper stopped a 2018 Chrysler 300 traveling east on I-40 near Shamrock for a traffic violation. A DPS canine arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle.
Following the alert, the Trooper then performed a search that allegedly turned up multiple plastic-wrapped packages of marijuana in large bags in the trunk and back seat area.
The driver, 26-year-old Girard Giorgio, of Surry, Virginia, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. He was transported and booked into the Wheeler County Jail.
The drugs allegedly were being transported from Las Vegas, Nevada to Nashville, Tennessee.
