A Blood Donor Challenge allows area residents to give life with Oklahoma Blood Institute. Healthy adults can typically donate blood and receive merchandise, like an OBI blood donor “challenge” T-shirt.

Three area communities will have the opportunity to give blood with OBI over the next three days as they partner with “blood donor challenge” blood drives.

On Tuesday, the Elk City community can give blood at First Baptist Church on Country Club Road from noon to 6 pm.

On Wednesday, the Hammon community may give during a drive at the Hammon School Cafeteria from 2 until 6 pm.

And the third and last area drive for the week will be held in Merritt in the science lab and detention classroom at the public school from noon until 4 pm.

All donors who participate in the challenge will be given Blood Donor Challenge T-shirts and will additionally receive the good feeling that giving blood provides donors.

Hospitals and medical facilities across the state of Oklahoma including Cordell Memorial Hospital depend on the generosity of individual donors with OBI to meet needs 24/7, 365 days every year.

OBI’s president and CEO, John Armitage says, “Thousands have already taken the Blood Donor Challenge, but blood doesn’t last long and can’t be stockpiled.” He says for those who haven’t given in the last two months, please consider it, again.

OBI relies on donations from an average of 1-thousand donors each day to meet the needs of its patients. One single donation can save as many as three lives.

OBI is the ninth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in 154 state medical facilities including hospitals throughout Paragon Communications listening area.
