The one-arm bandit is back at Elk City’s Rodeo of Champions set for the end of next week.
The self-described best-looking one arm guy in the arena has been missing from the Elk City rodeo for about four years, but he’s back and he’s not shy.
Wild animal trainer, outlaw, rancher and rodeo entertainer extraordinaire John Payne rolls into town to highlight the rodeo set for August 31-September 2.
Payne says it’ll be very easy to spot him on the Beutler Brother’s Arena rodeo grounds.
And, Payne says, don’t confuse him with the clowns.
Payne’s trained plenty of buffalo in his lifetime and they aren’t easy to train. He says they’re considered by many as wild animals, like lions.
Fans across the nation have seen the One Arm Bandit, who earned his name due to an electrocution accident in 1973.
Performances will take place at 8 pm each evening and other activities include free concerts and a rodeo parade set for Saturday afternoon at 2 pm on September 1.
Bleacher tickets for the Rodeo of Champions are $11 for adults and $9 for children ages 6-12 when purchased in advance. Bleacher tickets are $1 higher at the gate. Grandstand tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the gate.
For more information, visit the rodeo’s website or call the Chamber or the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
