An Elk City man is being held on a $100-thousand dollar bond following a domestic disturbance in which he’s thought to have ripped hair from the victim’s head and attempted to strangle her.

Gregory Levi Crocker is in the Beckham County Detention Facility after being charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation and with interference with an emergency telephone call.

According to a probable cause affidavit, police were recently called to a home in the 900 block of Halsey in Elk City in reference to a domestic situation. When police arrived, the report says they could hear a woman crying and yelling. When she came to the door, she was visibly trembling. Police observed red marks on her wrist and neck and her speech was choppy due to labored breathing. She was holding a young girl and said there were two more children inside asleep.

A male, later identified as Crocker, was found lying on his back in the hallway near the bedrooms. He told police he’d be okay and that he was having “spiritual issues.”

When police interviewed him, they found he had bloodshot eyes and slow, uncoordinated movements.

In a nearby bedroom, officers could see a child asleep on a bed and near the child’s head they could see “a portion of hair.’

The victim explained to officers that she’d made it known to Crocker that she was going to seek a divorce and he “lost it.” She said he attempted to strangle her, pulled out a handful of hair and shoved and hit her.

While recanting the incident, police found she was becoming upset again.

Officers photographed her injuries that included lacerated lips and scratches on her neck and throat.

Crocker is due in court for a preliminary hearing in Beckham County District Court on September 4 at 9 am.
