A Weatherford man has received a 5-year deferred sentence for burglary in the second degree.

21-year old Dakota Hunter Garrison appeared in Custer County District Court last week where he pleaded guilty to the criminal felony charge.

According to a report, Garrison was one of three men arrested following a major residential burglary on January 13, 2016, northwest of Weatherford at a home on Arapaho Road.

According to Sheriff Bruce Peoples at the time of the crime, cash and jewelry were stolen but the thieves left other things of value located near the money and jewelry leading investigators to believe the burglars had inside information.

From a tip, law enforcement investigators then went to an apartment in Weatherford. The report says they were overwhelmed with marijuana smoke and odors so they took the occupants into custody, including Garrison, and obtained a search warrant.

Later at the apartment, they found a large sum of money in Garrison’s possession. He admitted that it was his cut from the burglary two days earlier.

On the day of the burglary, a witness had noticed a red, four-door Chevy pickup at the residence where the crime took place with one or more people loading items. That witness notified the sheriff’s office.

On Monday of last week, the court gave Garrison a deferred judgement and sentence for a period of five years ending the 22nd day of March, 2021 at 1:30 pm during which time Garrison is placed on probation, supervised by the Department of Corrections.
