Similar to larger communities, Cordell city leaders are trying to find a way to rezone parts of downtown Cordell that will allow people to live there.
In other larger and more vibrant communities across the nation, the ability to allow residential living downtown, but above commercial and retail brings a lot more people downtown proving to make the area more vibrant which, in return, brings more people and more business back to the downtown area.
City Manager JC Moser says the Cordell planning and zoning commission recently proposed the idea to the city council with positive results.
Moser says, at the council’s last meeting which was last week, council members chewed on the recommendation, but had some concerns, though they, generally, liked the idea. He says the council requested some minor changes and sent the idea back to the planning and zoning commission which is busy working on the council’s concerns.
The proposal of allowing residential living downtown is still moving forward in the implementation process after getting a thumbs-up from the Cordell City Council.
Moser says planning and zoning won’t have the final recommendation ready in time for Monday’s City Council meeting, but should have something in about a month for the council.
