By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –

The Beckham County Under sheriff is stepping down from his position at the sheriff’s office.

Dan Honeycutt joined the sheriff’s office on the same date that Sheriff Derek Manning joined a year ago after taking over the office after Sheriff Scott Jay chose not to run for reelection.

Manning says Honeycutt told him that Honeycutt felt the time was right for him to step away from the position.

When Sheriff Manning introduced Honeycutt last January as his under sheriff to a packed courtroom in the county court house, he introduced his friend and former working partner with a great deal of respect and admiration. Manning says it’s hard to see him go.

Manning says that the sheriff’s office will miss the service of such a dedicated and professional lawman.

Manning added that Honeycutt was the right person at the right time for the under sheriff’s job.

Sheriff Manning says he expects to announce as early as next week the person who will be stepping into the role of under sheriff.

Honeycutt’s last day is this Sunday, January 14.
