A recent report indicates that a man killed last year when he was struck by a vehicle in front of the Clinton fire station was intoxicated.
According to a story in the Clinton Daily News, the State Medical Examiner’s Office says 44-year-old Juan Lira, Junior, a native of Clinton had a blood alcohol concentration of .45. In Oklahoma, the standard set for intoxication levels is .08. A concentration of .45 would indicated the man’s blood alcohol concentration was more than 5.5 times the minimum for being considered drunk.
A police report from the time of the incident says Lira was struck around 8:47 pm on September 8, 2015 by a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by 62-year-old Teri Jean Hasket of Custer City who was the only person in the Jeep.
Haskett was reportedly northbound on the highway – also known as 4th Street in Clinton – and as she was approaching Hayes Avenue, Lira, who was alone, entered the roadway walking east across the roadway near the new Clinton fire station.
She told investigators that she didn’t see Lira who sustained multiple injuries.
The police report indicated that Haskett stopped her vehicle and then continued on northbound, dragging Lira’s body approximately 175 feet.
She was charged in January of this year with negligent homicide, a misdemeanor. She’s due in court on the charge on April 12 for a disposition hearing.
Lira had also lived at one time in Cowden where his parents reside.
