Clinton area residents are urged to take the Blood Donor Challenge with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) next (this) week at Alliance Health Clinton during its employee blood drive.
The drive kicks off at 11 am and runs until 4 pm on Tuesday and will give those who have never saved the lives of others through a blood donation the chance to step up and help local patients. The drive will be held in the Weichel Center at the hospital.
Healthy adults can typically give and will receive a special “Blood Donor Challenge” T-shirt at the drive Tuesday.
OBI’s president and CEO, John Armitage says, “Only 10-percent of those eligible to give actually donate blood at least annually and OBI challenges those who don’t give regularly to overcome their excuses and take the challenge.”
OBI relies on donations from an average of 1-thousand donors each day to meet the needs of its patients. One single donation can save as many as three lives.
Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund, any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, OBI will make a contribution to the Global Blood Fund, a charity providing supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.
OBI is the ninth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in 154 state medical facilities including hospitals throughout Paragon Communications listening area.
