Two Californians have bonded out of the Custer County Jail after being arrested for drug possession following a traffic stop on the interstate.

32-year-old Cindy Thi Nguyen and 28-year-old Mark Michael Johnson of Huntington Beach, California have each bonded out of jail on the same charge, unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the two were arrested near the Gary Boulevard exit in Clinton for traveling 74 miles an hour in a 70 mile per hour zone. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper also wrote in the report that they had their fog lamps on, but visibility was fine.

As the trooper was filling out a traffic warning, he noticed the passenger, Johnson looked frightened and Nguyen, the driver overly explained how she noticed she had been speeding with her voice shaking. The officer said both had a road weary look about them. He said he could also smell the odor of raw marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

When Nguyen was told the officer suspected the two were involved in criminal activity, she allegedly told the officer that she had “pounds” of it in the trunk of the vehicle.

A probable cause search of the 2017 Dodge Charger was conducted and the trooper allegedly found a large, locked duffel bag in the trunk containing a large amount of what the officer believed to be marijuana. The report later added that there were 25 vacuum sealed packages that totaled 20 pounds in the duffel bag.

Nguyen bonded out on a $25-thousand dollar bond and is due in court for a preliminary hearing conference on December 7 while Johnson on a $50-thousand dollar bond and is due in court on November 17.

It’s believed the marijuana was headed for Ohio.
