Drastic improvements in jail statistics at the Beckham County Detention Center recently raised a red flag.
According to Sheriff Derek Manning, a representative from a logistics company that the jail hired to track report incidents inside the jail called about a possible error, an error in statistics.
However, it turns out, there was no error. The fact is, reportable statistics are down so much, it appeared as if there was a problem somewhere .
Manning says the statistics track incidents of importance.
With a 900% drop in the number of violent incidents at the jail in Beckham County over the same time period a year ago, it literally confused their system.
Manning is quick to deflect any credit.
The sheriff says that the statistician analyzing the report did a double take and suspected a problem, simply because there was such a large statistical improvement it was difficult to reconcile current statistics with past statistics.
Manning says the person analyzing the report commented that the change from a year ago was the most dramatic drop he had ever seen while working jail statistics.
Manning says Captain Andrew Wilson has been with the department a number of years and was promoted from a field deputy to Captain of the jail facility when Manning took over active duty as sheriff on January 3, 2017.
