An Arapaho man is in the Custer County jail after being arrested on an illegal drug complaint, a felony, following a disturbance in Clinton.
According to a probable cause affidavit, 32-year-old Brandon Scott Roper was pulled over on a city street in Clinton while driving an S-10 Chevy pickup that matched the description of one seen leaving an apartment complex where the disturbance was reported.
One thing led to another – and the other was a felony charge.
A police officer’s report says the officer observed the registration for the pickup had expired and that Roper’s driver’s license was DI canceled so he placed Roper under arrest for the violation.
According to a restriction on Roper’s license, the vehicle was to be equipped with an ignition interlock device, but none was installed, plus Roper was unable to confirm proof of insurance on the pickup.
During an inventory of the vehicle, police found a backpack with a small electronic digital scale wrapped inside a shop towel. Officers observed a small amount of a white residue.
More residue that appeared to be dusty and white was located inside two small, clear plastic baggies. Inside an empty cigar box was a small butane torch and another baggie containing 11 small, clear, yellow plastic baggies with no residue, appearing brand new, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Roper was taken to the Clinton City jail for book-in and while he was changing out of his street clothes, a small, round plastic case was located in Roper’s sock. Inside the case, police allegedly observed a crystal like substance that later field tested positive for Methamphetamine.
He’s been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, driving with a canceled license and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
Bond for Roper has been set at $10-thousand dollars and he’s due in court on October 6 for a preliminary hearing conference.
