A Custer County couple is due in court this week for a preliminary hearing for robbery with a weapon after former convictions of two or more felonies.

The man and woman have been sitting in separate cells since they were arrested in April of this year for armed robbery.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 47-year-old Laura Lynn Wiscombe-Charbano and 37-year-old Brandon James Lamborn are responsible for the robbery of a Clinton motel on April 3. Wiscombe-Charbano is believed to be the one welding the weapon while Lamborn was waiting for her in the get-away vehicle out front.

The court document says the clerk at the motel, located in the 1400 block of Neptune Drive, told police that a female subject had approached her and pointed a gun telling her to put all of the money a bag. The suspect then took the clerk’s IPhone along with another cell phone and two cordless phones and ordered her into a closet.

The affidavit also says that a member of Lamborn’s family reported to investigators that Lamborn had allegedly admitted that he was at the motel with a girl the morning of the robbery and that he was waiting in the car for the girl. When she got in, she had several cell phones along with cash money totaling $385. The amount of money that was stolen was not released to the public prior to this and only a subject with direct knowledge of the crime would know the amount.

Additionally, two woman told an investigator that they had picked Lamborn up for a ride and while in their vehicle, Lamborn told them that he was with the female suspect at the time of the robbery and that he and the suspect threw one of the phones out on 8th Street in Clinton and that the clerk had been locked in a closet. The fact that the clerk’s IPhone was recovered on South 8th Street and that the clerk had been placed in a closet was also not released to the public.

While reviewing Lamborn’s text messages on his phone, investigators found a text message to someone referred to as “Lacy” that allegedly says, “We just did it…I can’t believe it worked.” A minute later another message allegedly tells the same woman that he needs her to be his Bonnie “so we can Bony ‘n Clyde some (expletive)” and then added, “What a thrill.”

Another message was to a “Laura” that was later traced to Laura Charbano who is also known as Laura Wiscombe, the suspect.

Lamborn is being held on a $50-thousand dollar bond.

Originally held on a $50-thousand dollar bond, Wiscombe-Charbano’s bond was increased to $75-thousand dollars. Both are due in Custer County District Court on Thursday.
