An Elk City man has been charged with cultivation of a controlled, dangerous substance after police allegedly find a number of marijuana plants growing in his home.

27-year-old Gary Alan Goodfellow was arrested earlier this month and remains in jail on a $200-thousand dollar bond.

He’s been charged with cultivation of a CDS, possession of a firearm after previous felony conviction or during probation, child endangerment by permitting the presence of a manufactured CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges result from the execution of a recent search warrant.

According to police reports, officers allegedly found two, green leafy plants near the kitchen sink and reportedly had plants growing in the laundry room and the bedroom at some point.

When officers arrived at the house located in the 500 block of West Avenue E, and announced their arrival, they heard what they believed to have been the door being locked from the inside. Eventually, they kicked the front door open and found Goodfellow and his girlfriend, 34-year-old Selina Maria Underwood standing in the living room where they were placed in hand restraints.  Two large dogs ran towards the officers acting aggressively and showing their teeth, according to the report.  An officer tased one of the animals and they both ran to the back of the house.

Goodfellow was instructed to take his dogs to the back yard and as the officer was attempting to escort Goodfellow to the back bedroom, the report says he veered off into the laundry room where the officer heard water running from a faucet. Goodfellow said he was just getting a drink.  The officer wrote in the report he saw Goodfellow bent over drinking water from the faucet and appearing to be chewing something in his mouth.  When instructed to spit it out, officer allegedly found a green leafy substance come out of his mouth.

During the search, police allegedly found – in addition to the two plants – a number of drug items including six smoking pipes, three grinders, a pill bottle containing six small seeds, a smoking bong, a cultivation recipe and a CO2 gas pistol as well as residue that field tested positive for marijuana.

Both Goodfellow and Underwood allegedly told police in separate interviews that Goodfellow was growing the plants to help Underwood with a medical condition. Goodfellow told the detective that he thought it was harmless and he was just trying to help his girlfriend out.

Underwood has been charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and also remains in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $100-thousand dollar bond.

Both Goodfellow and Underwood have preliminary hearings set for March 8 in Beckham County District Court.
