By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –
There was a last minute flurry of activity at the Custer County Election Board office in Clinton Wednesday night. That flurry of activity provided a race for Clinton voters.
5 pm was the deadline for the filing for two city council seats in Clinton and as of 4:30, only one person had filled out a declaration of candidacy. That was Chuy Rosales. He’s the incumbent councilman for Ward 3.
The other seat was still open at 4:30, thirty minutes before deadline, but the Ward One incumbent, Jason Hulin walked in – just in time – and filed his necessary paperwork for reelection.
The race, however, developed in Ward Three, when Clinton businessman Walt Schumacher also came in just minutes before 5 pm and filled out a declaration of candidacy.
So, Clinton voters will decide between the incumbent, a restaurateur, Chuy Rosales and Schumacher.
Rosales’ family owns Wong’s Chinese Restaurant in Clinton.
Among other business ventures, Schumacher owns the Water-Zoo Water Park in Clinton.
The filing period for declarations of candidacy for the City of Clinton opened on Monday at 8 am and closed Wednesday night at 5 pm.
The election is slated for Tuesday, November 14.
