A Custer County man has bonded out of the Beckham County Detention Center after being arrested on Methamphetamine charges.

61-year-old Karey D. Sheperd of Weatherford was released Tuesday on a $5-thousand dollar bond after police pulled him over recently and allegedly found white crystal-like rocks and powder in a container in his green pickup.

According to an Elk City Police report, Sheperd was traveling south on Lincoln Avenue recently and an officer noticed his brake light was out and his tag had expired about three years ago. During the traffic stop, Sheperd told the officer he didn’t know his tag had expired.  While he was speaking, the officer wrote in the report that Sheperd appeared to be nervous and shaking.

While dispatch informed the officer that Sheperd’s driver’s license had been revoked and he’d been cited in 2014 for having an expired tag, he noticed that Sheperd was moving around a lot inside his pickup and appeared to be stuffing something in between his seat and center console.

After being detained in hand restraints, police located a small Altoids mint tin that allegedly contained what police believe to be meth. A sample later tested positive for the drug.

He’s been charged with possession of a controlled substance within 1-thousand feet of a school, driving with a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
