Beckham County Commissioners footed the bill for new fire gear for the Carter Fire Department.
Carter Fire Chief Chad Rippetoe solicited from the commissioners at their meeting this week new wildland fire apparel. Rippetoe says the purchase of the gear will be their first in almost two decades.
The commissioners unanimously approved the expenditure. Commissioner Buddy Carnes thought it was money well spent.
Carter told the commissioners his department was involved with 39 fire calls last year and 30 of them were mutual aid calls for nearby communities.
