The City of Cordell recently received a $100-thousand dollar REAP grant that will help open up a new area of town to more retail development.
City Manager JC Moser says the grant will upgrade an existing water line from 4-inches to 6-inches.
He says getting the grant was a win-win for the city as it was spurred by the upcoming construction of a new Tractor Supply Store.
Moser says the new store and new water line will lay on Crider Road, on the south side of the north part.
The city manager believes the project can be completed within 90 to 180 days.
Moser says the city’s REAP grant award was a nice gift for the town was going to upgrade the water line to 6-inches regardless. So, getting Tractor Supply in town and getting the grant were two pluses for the community.
REAP, or the Rural Energy for America Program, are initiatives designed to help rural districts that may lack the personnel and resources to compete effectively for Federal competitive grants and help districts with grant allocations in amounts that are too small to be effective in meeting their intended purposes.
This grant is coming through SWODA, the South Western Oklahoma Development Authority in Burns Flat.
