Hundreds of people have donated thousands of items in an effort to help tornado victims.
The Elk City collection centers include churches and other non-profit centers in and around the community.
The City of Elk City along with the Elk City Chamber and Elk City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is running possibly the largest collection and distribution center.
Staff has been diligently and dutifully running the center that is handling basic supplies including personal hygiene, clothing and water for individuals who’ve suffered a loss in the Tuesday night tornado.
Julie Brewer is heading up the center that’s located in the Ag barn behind the Elk City convention center. She says its obvious to her that the center is making a difference.
The demand for totes is extremely high, Brewer says. The item that seems to be the most in demand is totes.
She says they know they’ve helped well over a hundred people with basic necessities and the number of people that have contributed? She really doesn’t know.
She’s not sure that people know just what’s available at the supply center, but Brewer says they’ve got just about everything someone would need, personally, to get through the day.
Brewer says its amazing how much “help” is available, how many people and groups are doing what they can to help out those in need.
She says they’ll be there indefinitely….stocking and supplying.
One person died and 124 homes were either destroyed or received major damage from the Tuesday night tornado that struck the southern edge of the Elk City community.
